Area Manager - Retail (South London - Sussex to Surrey)

As an Area Manager at Halfords, you’ll play a key role in engaging, inspiring, and coaching store management teams to deliver top-tier store standards and customer service. Passionate about customer experience, you’ll foster a customer-focused culture where recruitment, training, development, and recognition ensure a team of competent and motivated colleagues.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning 6 months ahead, creating area and store-level business plans that align with Halfords' strategic objectives.
  • Manage long-range and daily colleague deployment to ensure operational efficiency and great customer service.
  • Upskilling and coaching store teams, managing change, and driving performance. You’ll implement effective succession planning and identify top talent to build high-performing teams.
  • Driving engagement by reflecting feedback and embedding the company’s values. Regular communication through conference calls, meetings, and ‘huddles’ will be key.
  • Analysing KPIs and sales metrics, developing targeted plans for underperforming stores.
  • Ensuring stores maintain exceptional standards by implementing and validating operational and commercial changes. You’ll be accountable for health and safety, retail compliance, stock management, and asset maintenance.

Skills and Experience Needed:

  • Proven success in leading multi-site retail teams and achieving sales targets.
  • Strong business planning and compliance expertise, with the ability to manage change effectively.
  • Solid understanding of employment practices and financial reporting.
  • A hands-on, motivational leader with excellent decision-making, coaching, and influencing skills.
  • Commercially savvy, with a determined and proactive approach to drive performance and results.
