Contracts Director

Concor invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Contracts Director. The successful incumbent will report directly to the Operations Executive. This position is for various projects across Southern Africa. The purpose of the role is to lead the execution of multiple building construction projects to ensure delivery on time, to budget, and to adhere to quality requirements through teamwork, professionalism, and ethical behaviour while ensuring continuous safety on projects. Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide competent and effective leadership of the construction process and teams including living the Company values and being visible and engaged.
  • Ensure legal compliance with contracts by monitoring changes in laws or regulations that may affect the company’s ability to meet its obligations.
  • Review contract proposals and identify issues that could potentially result in litigation.
  • Interpret contracts in accordance with the law, including reviewing contract clauses to determine whether they are reasonable or fair to both parties.
  • Negotiate contracts on behalf of the company, including developing proposals that meet the client’s needs while also maximizing profit potential for the company.
  • Review and update existing contracts to ensure that they are still relevant and meet current standards.
  • Review contract terms to identify potential risks such as conflicts of interest or violations of ethics laws.
  • Monitor and report on key contract dates and deliverables, flagging risks and opportunities for senior management.
  • Monitor the performance of contractors to ensure that they are fulfilling their obligations under the terms of their contracts.
  • Develop and implement professional contract management through oversight and guidance of Contract Managers and other reports to ensure appropriate, effective, and efficient management.
  • Provide direction to Contracts Managers and other members of the project team in respect of the construction programme and related schedules.
  • Conduct reviews of completed contracts to identify lessons learned and best practices.
  • Ensure that financial forecasts and budgets are in place and complied with.
  • Oversee the management of the selection and appointment of sub-contractors ensuring BBBEEE requirements are achieved.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop staff as appropriate to improve performance and enable growth.
  • Simultaneously manage multiple contracts successfully.
  • Ensure that quality of work and materials comply with specifications.
  • Ensure project teams are conversant with the requirements of the agreed contract programme.
  • Build and maintain good relationships based on trust and ethical conduct with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Consistently comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Safety, Health & Environmental Regulations and the achievement of the Company’s vision.
  • Ensure best practices in construction methods and techniques.
Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications:

  • BSc or BEng in Civil Engineering or BTech in Construction Management or Building Sciences.
  • A relevant post-graduate qualification would be an advantage.
  • Must be registered with SACPCMP.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as Senior Contracts Manager, with at least 5 years’ experience as Contracts Director managing large industrial, commercial, residential, and mixed-use construction projects.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong working knowledge of the OHS ACT, Construction Regulations, and Environmental legislation.
  • Proven ability to negotiate and manage multiple construction contracts simultaneously.
  • Excellent working knowledge of CCS estimating and planning modules.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, & Outlook).
  • Knowledge and understanding of various general conditions of contract and a strong working knowledge of JBCC suite of agreements.
  • Ability to work as part of a team while exercising own judgement and decision-making.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
