Purpose of the Role: The Logistics and Distribution Manager is responsible for the effective coordination and planning of the transport schedule with Transport Contractors, optimizing loads, routes, and personnel to meet daily production and order demands. The role ensures efficient fleet management and cost control, while maintaining high levels of communication with internal and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities:
  1. Transport Scheduling and Coordination:
    • Daily planning and scheduling of VKB Milling transport needs with external Transport Contractors according to orders and plant/product availability.
    • Schedule drivers and fleet in advance to optimize loads, routes, and personnel productivity.
    • Work with the production department to ensure timely order fulfillment.
  2. Efficiency and Cost Management:
    • Improve fleet efficiency through optimal load scheduling and communication with Transport Contractors.
    • Drive cost reductions by negotiating transport costs and tracking fleet efficiency and fuel consumption per vehicle.
  3. Communication and Coordination:
    • Communicate with external contractors to ensure timely delivery of feed.
    • Maintain ongoing communication with internal departments, personnel, marketers, clients, drivers, and contractors regarding deliveries and feedback.
  4. Administration and Record Keeping:
    • Keep detailed records of fleet efficiency, fuel consumption, and transport costs.
    • Ensure good administration practices and accurate documentation.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications:
    • Grade 12 certificate.
    • Relevant tertiary qualification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of Logistics Management experience within the FMCG environment.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in MS Office with a strong focus on Excel.
    • Code 8 Driver's License.
    • Clear Criminal Record.
    • Strong administration skills.
    • Negotiation and persuasive communication skills.
    • Strong customer focus and ability to work under pressure.
    • Effective people management and conflict resolution skills.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning, and scheduling skills.
