Job DescriptionA well-known international hospitality group based in Franschhoek is looking for an Assistant Accountant to perform a variety of financial tasks ensuring trial balance is ready and reconciled for monthly financial reporting. The position is a fixed-term contract for 3 months, with a potential extension to 6 months, aimed at supporting the Property Accountant during an extended sick leave. This is a full-time role, based in the office with working hours as 08h00 to 17h00, Monday to Friday, with flexibility for overtime as needed.Responsibilities:Perform balance sheet account reconciliationsAssist in the preparation of audit schedulesReview creditors' reconciliations and authorise paymentsSupport the capture of financial information as neededContribute to the enhancement of financial systemsEnsure timely debt collection and assist as requiredCompare expenses to budgets and highlight any discrepanciesAnalyse stock and prepare journal entries at month-endMaintain the fixed asset register and generate depreciation entriesSupport the Property Accountant and Cluster Finance team in improving financial processesManage workload effectively and communicate any concerns to the Property Accountant and General ManagerAttend meetings as requiredMaintain a thorough understanding of all company policies and adhere to themRequirementsMinimum of 4 years' experience as an accountantRelevant Accounting and Finance degree or diplomaNational Senior Certificate meeting the requirements for a diploma or degree courseExperience in the hospitality industry is advantageousProficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, and accounting software (Sage X3 experience preferred)Strong command of English, both verbal and writtenHigh sense of responsibility and ethical standardsAbility to perform under pressure and meet deadlinesStrong sense of ownership and pride in workStrong organisational and administrative skills, with a meticulous and methodical approachHigh accuracy and attention to detailExcellent analytical, problem-solving skills, and time managementAbility to work independently and as part of a teamGood communication skills
